Totally Gross! The Game of Science arrives in first place of the 2017 top ten educational games for kids.
Totally Gross is a totally fun, totally educational game that answers some questions about life’s grossest stuff. Consider it the truth or dare of educational board games. Players can answer a question on a variety of subjects, like zoology, astronomy, or anatomy. Or, they can act out total GROSS-OUT challenges.
Ages: 6 and up
Acuity from Fat Brain comes in next for this year’s best educational kids’ games.
Flip it. Turn it. Match em’ up. This fast-paced, quick-thinking game, dubbed Acuity, tests your eyes and memory with patterned tile cards in a colorful grid. Players have to find the matches for their cards, using memory to carry them.
Ages: 8 and up
Rory’s Story Cubes comes in next on the list.
I am simply in love with these story cubes. This game is so much fun, especially for bookworms and kids who love to imagine, create, and write. Some stories start with the classic, “once upon a time…” But most begin with something else, and players have to continue their stories.
Ages: 8 and up
A familiar name in fun kids’ games comes in at 4th of the top children’s educational games – Simon.
Simon is an old-school classic, but this game has been revamped a bit. Once an awesome 80s game with a mode or two, now Simon has several modes of gameplay. Play it alone or with friends. The main objective is matching the colors to the colors Simon says. Not-so simple.
Ages: 4 – 7
Another fun children’s educational game – Think Fun Zingo Sight Words also makes it as one of the 2017 “best of” list.
Best for beginner readers and bookworms-to-be, this version of Zingo is a sight words game. It teaches kids how to recognize certain words, like have, and, me, and for. Players play like Bingo, but their cards feature sight word spaces.
Ages: 3 and up
Another from the Fat Brain lineup holds the 6th spot of children’s top educational games for 2017 and into 2017 with Peek-A-Doodle Doo.
Reviewed as a first memory game for kiddos, Peek-a-Doodle Doo is actually for anyone seeking to sharpen their memory skills. Great for families. You basically have to remember which chickens have eggs and which ones haven’t laid their eggs yet.
Ages: 5 and up
Learning Resources Sum Swamp arrives at #7 on the list.
To traverse the Sum Swamp, players have to answer simple addition and subtraction problems. There are four swampy creatures to look out for, but the first player to answer the questions correctly gets to jump closer to the swamp-free shore.
Ages: 8 and up
Managing the 8th position among this year’s best educational games for kids – Scrambled States of America – a returning favorite.
As someone who is horrible with geography to this day, I think Scrambled States is an awesome idea for everyone. Regardless of age or education levels. This game features lots-a cards with different, quirky state questions and facts on them. Players have to match the states with their map location.
Ages: 3 and up
Falling in at #9 is the I SPY Preschool Game.
I Spy is a classic game, but this one is on a preschool level for little learners. Kids have 12 puzzle pairs, each interlocking with a chaotic picture on one side and a search-and-find clue on the other. To earn matches, players have to “spy” the correct pairs and items.
Ages: 3 – 6
The final pick of the 2017 top ten educational games for kids is Sequence.
What comes next? What came before? This game of sequence asks kids these questions, and others, for a fun learning experience that teaches chain reaction and patterns. Kinda like Bingo in gameplay with transluscent, colorful chips, but one game board.
